BGMI Lite Renamed BGMI Air, And Pre-Registrations Hit 10 Million

Krafton India confirmed the BGMI Lite renamed BGMI Air switch on October 16, and the new name landed alongside a milestone — the BGMI Air pre-registration count on Google Play crossed 10 million ahead of the game's India launch later this year. Krafton says the new identity marks the next chapter in its push to bring the core BGMI experience to a wider set of players through a streamlined, lighter build, one that works regardless of how much storage a phone has.

A Lite version was first teased with a video on the official BGMI YouTube channel on August 16, then backed by a press release on August 19 promising a launch within the year. Pre-registration opened on Google Play on August 25 for Android users in India and touched 10 million sign-ups in roughly 50 days. Krafton has not explained why the "Lite" tag was dropped. An iOS schedule is still pending, so iPhone players have their own wait ahead.

Krafton's Discord Event Hands Out Three Free Items

Krafton is running a pre-registration event on the official BGMI Discord server, and verified entries get three in-game items. The event opened on October 19 and closes on December 9 at 11:59 PM IST. Everyone whose entry is verified receives:

  • Premium Crate Coupon ×10
  • Glorious Celebration Avatar Frame (Permanent)
  • Labyrinth Scale - M24 (Permanent)

Entering takes only a few minutes:

  1. Join the official BGMI Discord server.
  2. Head to the pre-registration proof channel.
  3. Submit proof of your BGMI Air pre-registration along with your in-game UID.

How BGMI Air Gameplay Works

The battle royale core is untouched. You drop into Erangel, loot up, fight and survive as the zone closes in. Matches hold 100 players across solo, duo and squad, and Krafton says the gunplay is tuned to feel like regular BGMI while staying friendly to low-end devices.

The bigger change is how downloads are handled. Instead of pushing several packages before your first match, BGMI Air drops you into the battlegrounds right after the initial install. After that you pick which extra modules you want and can remove content you no longer need — a lifesaver if your storage is always full.

BGMI Air Download Size And Minimum Requirements

Krafton says the BGMI Air download size is around 1GB for the initial install, with no forced packages before your first match. The Google Play listing shows up to 2GB. That sits against a full BGMI install that can cross roughly 8GB with add-ons.

Krafton's promotional material lists a minimum of 1.5GB RAM and an Adreno 306 GPU or higher. These figures were shared before the rename and haven't been restated for BGMI Air. The minimum Android version, supported processors and free storage requirement haven't been published.

The Play listing pitches the same high-quality multiplayer experience as the main game, though the lighter build is aimed at low-end devices.

Your Account And Cross-Play

No new profile needed here. Existing BGMI players do not have to transfer anything — BGMI Air installs and runs as a separate game, and you log in with your current BGMI credentials so eligible owned items, outfits included, come along with you.

  • Sign in with your current BGMI credentials to access eligible items
  • Multiplayer with regular BGMI is supported, so one friend on the main game and another on Air can squad up
  • Both apps stay installed side by side, so your main account keeps running while you try the lighter version
  • Krafton has said both versions get updates together, so new content lands on both over time

BGMI Air Open Beta And Release Date

BGMI Air is still listed for pre-registration with launch targeted for later this year, though no specific date has been locked. Krafton has confirmed a BGMI Air open beta will be introduced shortly, to gather player feedback and refine the experience before the full release. That beta would be the first proper hands-on chance for players, and Krafton has not given it a date or month yet.

Krafton hasn't said who gets in, so pre-registering doesn't guarantee beta access.

Beyond that, Krafton says further updates and details will come through the official BGMI Air Instagram page and its other channels in the run-up to launch.

How To Pre-Register For BGMI Air

Android users in India can still sign up ahead of launch:

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your Android phone.
  2. Search for BGMI Air.
  3. Tap the pre-register button on the listing and confirm.

Once the game goes live you should get a notification. After registering, grab a screenshot — you will need it to claim the Discord event items. iOS players will have to wait for a separate listing. You can also check the BGMI official site for announcements, and pick up the main game from our Battlegrounds Mobile India download page in the meantime.

Why BGMI Air Matters For India

BGMI launched exclusively for India in 2021, after PUBG Mobile was banned in September 2020. The service was blocked in July 2022 and returned in May 2023. According to Krafton India, cumulative BGMI downloads have now crossed 260 million, so a lighter version built for budget phones makes sense for the next wave of players. Ten million pre-registrations before a single official match has been played is a serious statement of intent — and the Discord event gives that crowd something to claim before launch day.
